World Tournament Games You Can Take To Your Backyard

Maybe you’re hosting a game night. Perhaps you want to invite friends over for burgers and beer. Whatever it is you’re planning for the day, a few activities can level up the fun. Plus, challenging your friends always calls for a good time.

Games such as Ultimate Frisbee, Beer Pong, and Cornhole are played worldwide by professional athletes. Despite these games having major associations keeping track of annual championships, you can bring out your things to the backyard and start playing them, too. You don’t have to be good at them. You’re here to have a good time.

Here’s how you can enjoy a great time with friends at your place by playing games with internationally-held tournaments:

Ultimate Frisbee

What started as a game played at a parking lot in the 60s is now played worldwide with an international sports organization called World Flying Disc Federation based in Germany. Since 2001, this game has been a part of the World Games.

If one of your friends knows how to throw a disc, you can form a circle and practice tossing the disc to each other. Start with a closer distance and eventually grow the circle bigger. Once you get the hang of it, you and your friends can have a little game of frisbee in the backyard. Disc throwing can still be wobbly, but running around and catching is still as fun.

Cornhole

Famous in the Midwest, cornhole is now a game taking on barbeques, drinks, and even national tournaments. In America, an organization called the American Cornhole Organization is in charge of every official tournament, products, and other updates surrounding the game. However, you can plan your own equally fun cornhole tournament.

Gather three of your friends, then form groups of two. Bring out your trusty cornhole board and bags. You can start shooting the bags in the hole. For every bag that goes in, the team earns 3 points. If the bag hits the board and stays, the team gains 1 point. The first to reach 21 points wins the game.

Beer Pong

You may have been introduced to beer pong at a college party where everyone’s gathered around the table, howling and cheering for their bets. It’s a casual game, but players get easily competitive. The World Series of Beer Pong exists– the “longest-running organized beer pong tournament in the world.”

It’s fun, there’s no doubt about that, but it’s also easy to organize on your own. Just take out a long table, add a bunch of cups, fill them with beer (or water–more sanitary–you can still drink beer from a cleaner cup from the side of the table). Remember to decide on your set of rules before starting the game with your friends. It’s less complicated that way.

Hanging out with your friends is always fun, especially with the presence of food and drinks. You don’t need to go through great lengths to have a good time with them. You can use things that are already present in your own home, bring them out to the backyard, and start the fun. Also, a pro-tip: it’s going to be even more fun if you and your friends could raise the stakes a little.
